No fewer than 2000 athletes will take part in the sixth Edo Heritage Sports Festival and Carnival in Benin City in November.

Chief Executive Officer of Heritage and Sports Colony International Limited, Mrs Omoyemwen Adeyinka-Afolabi, said the event was aimed at promoting cultural tolerance and unity in the state.

She said, “The fiesta is a blend of contemporary and traditional components with the aim to promote cultural tolerance and unity in Edo State.

A diverse range of sporting disciplines will be featured at the festival, showcasing the state’s commitment to holistic development. Athletes will compete in activities such as ayo (a traditional board game), traditional wrestling, chess, karate, five-a-side football, and athletics.

These events not only celebrate physical prowess but also pay homage to Edo’s cultural roots.

In addition to the sporting competitions, the festival promises a vibrant cultural experience. Attendees can look forward to daily outdoor dances, a music fiesta, a spelling bee competition, the Miss Paraclete International Pageant, opportunities for free skills acquisition, a cultural carnival parade, and an engaging trade fair.

This edition of the Edo Heritage Sports Festival and Carnival is a collaborative effort between Heritage and Sports Colony International Limited, the Edo State Sports Commission, and the Edo Skills Development Agency.
