The Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, has said he admired Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo for his eloquence and being a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
He said he and his subjects at the palace had started praying for Prof. Osinbajo, a presidential aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC), in his bid to become the president from May 29 next year.
The first-class monarch spoke yesterday at his palace in Benin, the Edo State capital, while receiving the vice- president, who was in the state to meet Edo delegates of APC, ahead of the non-elective convention of the party.
Osinbajo, who landed at Benin Airport at 10:44am, moved to the palace of Oba of Benin and later joined APC delegates at Constantial Hotel, opposite Benin Airport, at 12:52 p.m. The closed-door meeting was rounded off at 2:26pm
Oba of Benin advised politicians to make delivery of dividends of democracy to the electorate their priority, as the country prepared for next year’s general election.
Osinbajo said President Muhammadu Buhari had exposed him to critical decisions and programmes about Nigeria, which he noted had equipped him with the capacity to lead Nigeria.
I have been exposed to many things in government. I commend the President (Buhari) who has been generous to ensure that I participate in every policy decision making of the government.”
“I have the exposure at the highest level in government and the capacity to govern the country. I started teaching at the age of 24, and I have served in several capacities. I assure you that I will do the very best I can for the country.”
Osinbajo said his position as vice- president was God’s plan for him to garner requisite experience to serve as president in 2023.
The aspirant, who spoke yesterday during a visit to the Asagba of Asaba, Obi Chike Edozien, in Delta State, said the nation needed a man like him with experience.
Prof. Edozien reminded the vice-president of an earlier request by the Asaba people for the establishment of a federal university to atone for the massacre of Asaba indigenes during the civil war.
