The Dangote refinery has processed a total of 50 million barrels of crude oil since commencing full operations, with 60% of its feedstock sourced from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.

This was revealed by the refinery’s group chief strategy officer, Aliyu Suleiman, during an appearance before a Senate ad hoc committee investigating the importation of substandard petroleum products.

While commending the NNPC for its support, Suleiman noted that the remaining 40% of crude was procured through imports and direct purchases.

He emphasized the refinery’s willingness to pay fair prices for locally sourced crude but called for a level playing field, suggesting that the regulator should ensure the refinery can procure 100% of its crude domestically from producers rather than international middlemen.

Suleiman highlighted the refinery’s potential to generate foreign exchange, create jobs, and boost national confidence.

However, he acknowledged challenges in securing crude from some international oil companies (IOCs), a claim disputed by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
