NLC-”WORKERS WON’T BE SACRIFICIAL LAMB DURING AND AFTER THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC”

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has come out to ask for further decrease in prices of petroleum products, and restoration of Nigeria’s Oil System.

While addressing the media on Friday to mark Workers Day, the President of the Union, Ayuba Wabba, cautioned that Nigerian workers won’t be sacrificial lambs and called for increased efforts in the fight against   corruption.

“Let me say it clear and loud too, that Nigerian workers and workers in other parts of the world won’t be sacrificial lambs during and after the Coronavirus pandemic.”

According to the NLC President, there is no justification to Nigeria’s rising debt profile, as he stated that the COVID-19 pandemic emphasises the need for government to restore the country’s education and health systems.

He also explained the negative effect of the lockdown directive on the capital morbidity, and the difficulty it brings especially to the average citizen, “There’s no any other time than now. Nigerian government and governments of other nations must diversify their economies to prevent job losses because life must continue after Coronavirus.” Mr Wabba said. He went on to urge the government at all levels to strengthen the Naira by producing what citizens consume and an immediate review of the Power Sector privatisation programme, calling for an end to estimate billing.
