Accelerated hearing on a suit filed to stop Godwin Obaseki, the Edo State Governor, from contesting the primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),  has been delayed by a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital,

GNB News gathered that the presiding judge, Justice Emmanuel Obile stood down the matter for three hours following an appeal by Ferdinand Orbih, the Lead Counsel to the Plaintiff, that they should be given a brief period to explore an out of court settlement.

It will be recalled that Justice Obile had on Tuesday while ruling on a motion exparte, granted an order restraining Governor Obaseki from participating in a primary election of the PDP following the determination of a suit filed by one of the aspirants, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama.

However, Ogbeida-Ihama’s lawyer prayed the court that there were moves by the parties to the suit to settle the matter outside the court and urged the judge to stand down the proceedings for four hours.

After hearing their prayers, the presiding judge, Justice Emmanuel Obile granted the application and stood down the matter for 12.30 pm to allow them to reach an accord.
