The APC ward executives for Ketembere in Adamawa State’s Shelleng Local Government Area have suspended Senator Ahmed Barata, the director general of Aishatu Ahmed (Binani) governorship campaign council.
The ward executive members announced Barata’s suspension on Friday due to alleged anti-party conduct and Binani’s withholding of emergency food supplies supplied to party supporters prior to the elections.
This provoked sanctions by the State Working Committee culminating in the sacking and indefinite suspension of the ward officials from the party.
A letter addressed to Barata, a copy of which was made available to journalists in Yola, dated March 30, and titled, ‘Suspension from being a member of All Progressives Congress’, signed by Iliyasu Mohammed and 26 others, mentioned various infractions allegedly committed by Barata including his refusal to distribute food items donated by Binani prior to the governorship election which held on March 18.The most notable suspension order was given to Boss Mustapha, the secretary to the government of the Federation, by certain ward executives in his Gwadabawa ward. The Adamawa APC has recently experienced a number of prominent and significant party members being suspended at their wards.
The letter claims that the decision to suspend Barata was made during the party’s ward executive meeting on March 27, 2023.
We, the exco members of this ward, have decided to suspend you (Barata) on the following grounds in accordance with all pertinent sections of Article 21 of the All Progressives Congress constitution, 2022 as amended, which also permits the ward executive committee to take disciplinary measures against any erring member regardless of his or her status.
“Anti-party activities during the gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections on March 18; Party impersonation via employment of agents during the aforementioned elections; Being a principal actor in causing crisis at the polling unit between agent sent by the party and those you sent during the 18 March governorship and House of Assembly elections; and withhold of relief food items sent to party faithful before election by the APC governorship candidate, Distinguished Senator Aisha Ahmed Binani.”
