Twenty-five soldiers and an officer from different units within the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army are currently facing court-martial proceedings for various offenses.

These personnel have responsibilities that cover the entire South-East states and Cross River.

The General Officer Commanding the 82 Division, Major General Hassan Dada, emphasized that the court-martial serves as a means for the military to maintain discipline among its personnel.

He also stressed that the accused individuals are considered innocent until proven otherwise through the court-martial process, ensuring they receive fair hearings.

“Let me assure you that this court-martial will be guided by the principle of natural justice and fair hearing as encapsulated in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended and other extant laws and procedures related to your trial,” he said.

“The court is free from any external influences, and we will ensure adequate time and facilities to ensure you defend yourselves.”

The GOC urged the defense counsel to avoid unnecessary adjournments that might prolong the cases.

The court-martial is led by Colonel Usman Ahmad as the President, with a panel of 10 members, along with a Judge Advocate, Captain S.A. Sadiq, who provides guidance throughout the proceedings.
