From Jail To Office: Bassirou Faye Assumes Presidency as Senegal’s Youngest Leader

A 44-year-old pan-Africanist leftwinger, Bassirou Faye has been inaugurated as Senegal’s youngest president on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Bassirou Diomaye Faye was inaugurated as Senegal’s youngest president, pledging reforms following his recent election victory.

The 44-year-old left-wing pan-Africanist, who has now become the youngest elected president in Africa, has taken office without any prior experience in elected positions.

Several African leaders, including Nigeria’s Bola Ahmed Tinubu, attended the ceremony in the new town of Diamniadio, near the capital, Dakar.

Faye’s rise to power comes after a remarkable electoral victory, occurring just 10 days following his release from prison under President Sall’s amnesty
