The Abuja Division of the Appeal Court is poised to announce its decision on the Election Petitions Appeals concerning the Kano and Bauchi state governorship polls held on March 18.
In the Kano State governorship election appeal, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) is the appellant, challenging the candidacy of Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna from the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Simultaneously, the appeal for the Bauchi State governorship election was initiated by Sadique Abubakar, the APC governorship candidate and former Chief of Air Staff, against Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
These cases have drawn sizable crowds outside the appeal court, leading to near stampedes.
Security personnel had to use tear gas to disperse individuals attempting to force their way into the court premises.
As of 10:15 am, journalists had not yet been allowed entry into the courtroom where the judgment for the Kano case is expected.
Meanwhile, proceedings for the Bauchi State appeal have commenced with the arrival of the three-member panel.
