BREAKING: Court grants Emefiele N300m bail

A former Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele, was granted bail by a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja on Wednesday. 

He was granted bail in the sum of N300m and two sureties in like sum. 

Ruling on his bail application on Wednesday, Justice Hamza Muazu said the sureties must have Certificates of Occupancy and titles of property within the Maitama District.

Justice Hamza Muazu ruled that Emefiele should deposit his travel documents with the court registrar and stay within the Abuja Municipal Area Council. 

The former CBN governor will be held in Kuje Correctional Centre until he fulfills the bail conditions. 

Emefiele is facing trial for alleged procurement fraud, with charges reduced to six, amounting to N1.2 billion. The trial is scheduled to commence on November 28.
