Military officers annouced in a statement read out on state TV on Wednesday that Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba is under house arrest.
“President Ali Bongo is under house arrest, surrounded by his family and doctors,” they said, adding that one of his sons has also been arrested for “treason.”
This comes just hours after members of the Republican Guard, the president’s Praetorian Guard, army soldiers, and police officers announced that they will be taking over after Bongo was reelected for the third term.
