The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed claims that it is investigating Ecobank Nigeria and Ecobank Transnational Inc. Specialized Resolutions Company (ETISRC) for extortion.
A statement circulated earlier alleging that the CBN was probing the financial institutions over claims of abusive proceedings against Wilben Trade Limited and its CEO, Marcus Wade, has been labeled as misleading by the apex bank.
The CBN’s denial comes after Wilben Trade claimed that Ecobank and ETISRC had falsely accused the company and its CEO of fraud, leading to a two-year legal battle.
It is important to note that Ecobank previously petitioned the Department of Public Prosecutions over $42,485,900 fraud allegations against several individuals, including Marcus Wade and Wilben Trade Limited.
