COVID-19: Minister Charges Telecoms Companies To Subsidize call And Data Rate

Nigeria’s minister of communications, Ali Isa Pantami,  has made a passionate call to telecoms service providers to further review down the prices of data and call rates as the country fights COVID-19 pandemic. The minister made this call after many Nigerians took to Twitter to ask telecoms service providers to give out freebies. He urged the companies to do so  in consideration of  the critical time the country is in, currently.  Pantami made this passionate appeal on his Twitter account.

In the wake of the lockdown pronouncement made by the federal government- in certain states, Nigerians have to flatten the curve of the spread of the Novel  Coronavirus, a good number of people took to Twitter with the hashtag #freedata to urge telecom companies to provide free packages. According to most people, this would go a long way as they struggle to cope with staying indoors as a result of the outbreak of the virus

It will be recalled that the Federal Government recently released the sum of N15 billion, to boost the response activities of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), and the Lagos State government in containing the COVID-19 crisis.
