Datti Baba Ahmed, the Labour Party’s vice presidential candidate in the presidential election held on February 25, has begged President Muhammadu Buhari and Chief Justice of Nigeria Olukayode Ariwoola not to appoint Bola Ahmed Tinubu as president on May 29.
As a guest on Channels Television Politics Today on Wednesday, Ahmed argued that it was improper to swear in a president who did not match the requirements set forth in the Constitution.
“Don’t hold that inauguration, Mr. President. CJN, your Lordship, please refrain from engaging in constitutional violations, Ahmed begged.
Peter Obi, Ahmed’s teacher, had submitted a plea to the presidential tribunal on Tuesday contesting Tinubu’s victory, claiming that not only was it unlawful, but it also broke other important constitutional provisions.
Ahmed, who supported the petition Obi filed, emphasized that the truth must be revealed and that he was prepared to accept risks if they would result in him carrying out the right thing.
“I am so lawful and confident because I trust in this document; no matter how far-fetched it is, I’m not taking any chances. “Swearing in a ticket that has not complied with the constitution’s requirement is terminating democracy,” he declared.
And that is the accurate understanding; those who have not complied with the constitutional requirement cannot be sworn in.
He emphasized that swearing in Tinubu amounted to endorsing a crime. “You can’t do that; if you did, you broke the law and violated the constitution. “Anyone does not meet the constitutional threshold shall never be sworn in,” I reiterate.
He stressed that he was prepared to give his life, if necessary, to ensure that the constitution’s mandates be strictly adhered to. “I am Datti Baba Ahmed; I will not jeopardize my safety or my life, but I will reiterate: swear in anyone who does not adhere to our nation’s constitution; you are engaging in an unconstitutional exercise.”
“I’m taking this chance to protect my nation. Certainly, that is excessive, and I am stating it, but Yakubu’s issuance of the certificate was much more severe. He is endangering all of our lives by acting recklessly. We are all already in danger, so why should I take on further risk? What have they failed to accomplish to Nigeria? What have they not abused against Nigeria? They would now grab the Constitution, where it is obvious that they did not succeed in obtaining it when they stated they would “and get 24, and FCT.” Should I be frightened that they will swear this man in? I won’t be,” he declared.
