The EFCC said a group has been actively campaigning on social media, recruiting impressionable young Nigerians against the Commission.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is alerting the general public about a possible protest against the commission orchestrated by individuals under investigation for corruption.
In a statement, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said the group is recruiting young people, including students, through social media to take up “arms” against the Commission’s cybercrime enforcement efforts in the last couple of days
The EFCC emphasizes its respect for peaceful protest but is concerned this movement may be a ploy by corrupt elements to disrupt national security.
“The Commission will not tolerate any disruption of law and order,” the statement reads, “and is working with sister security agencies to address potential threats.”
The EFCC urges parents, guardians, and educators to discourage young people from participating. They frame their fight against corruption as a way to protect the future of Nigeria’s youth.
