Federal Government Secures $17 Million World Bank Support for Adolescent Education

The Federal Government (FG) has announced that it secured a $17 million loan from the World Bank to support adolescent education nationwide. The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, revealed this during the Nigerian Economic Summit (NES).

He minister explained that the money would be used to build 20,000 classrooms across the country and employ over 950,000 teachers across the country. 

Hajia Sanusi, a representative from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, highlighted the issue of over 70 million children being deprived of education, with more than 21 million not even registered at birth.

To address this concerning trend, the Federal Government has initiated various programs, including social safety nets and conditional cash transfers aimed at improving the living conditions of these children.

It will be recall that President Bola Tinubu last week inaugurated an extensive conditional cash transfer programme, targeting an immense 15 million households across the nation as part of the 8 point agenda of his administration.

Each eligible household is slated to receive N75,000 within a three-month timeframe as part of the programme, which was formally unveiled on the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
