FG To Reward Gold Medalists With $15,000 And Silver To Receive $10,000

The federal government disclosed that athletes who get Gold medals at the ongoing Tokyo Olympic games would receive $15,000 while Silver and Bronze would be $10,000 and $7500 respectively.

This was disclosed on Tuesday in Tokyo by Simon Ebohdjaiye, Director, Federation and Elite Athletes Department (FEAD), Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

He disclosed that this is an upward review from the initial amount announced due to the dedication of the athletes, adding that the reward was part of the FG’s efforts to reward performance that represents Nigeria.

“Gold medallist will now be rewarded with 15,000 dollars, while silver and bronze medal winners will each get 10,000 dollars and 7,500 dollars respectively.

“The earlier award was 5,000 dollars for gold, 3,000 dollars for silver and 2,000 dollars for bronze,” he said.

Nigeria’s Blessing Oborududu bagged a silver medal in the 68Kg women’s wrestling category at the Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday.

Another athlete, Ese Brume recorded a 6.97 metres jump in the final of the women’s long jump to win her first Olympic medal and Nigeria’s first medal at the Tokyo games.
