The release of Ramon Olorunwa Abbas aka Hushpuppi on Wednesday, went viral on social media with screenshots of the Bureau of Prisons website.
According to the details on the website, Hushpuppi was released on July 20.
However, GNB News confirmed that the 37-year-old was only moved to California.
This was made known by his legal representative, Gal Pissetzky, on Wednesday night.
The Chicago based lawyer, told The Punch that Hushpuppi is on his way to California for trial.
He also dismissed reports that Mr Ramon Abbas had dropped his as his legal representative.
“He has not been released and I am still his lawyer. He is on his way to California. Not everything you see on court documents is accurate.
“Just because the jail record says ‘released’ does not mean he has been released. He is being transferred to California,” he said.
The Department of Justice has confirmed his arrival in Chicago, but noted that “he is expected to be “transferred to Los Angeles in the coming weeks”.
Hushpuppi’s case has now been transferred from Illinois, Chicago to the Central District of California for prosecution.
The 37-year-old and Olakekan Jacob, aka Woodberry were extradited to the United States after they were apprehended by Dubai Police for alleged online fraud.
