The Independent Electoral Commission , INEC, has reportedly pointed out two (2) possible happenings that could invariably lead to the November 6 Anambra poll being declared inconclusive, while noting that the possibility cannot be totally ruled out. Nevertheless, what are these events which could make the Anambra poll inconclusive?
Checkout these 2 below;
1. If no candidate meets the requirements for victory at the Anambra poll
According to INEC, a candidate can only be declared as winner of the Anambra poll in line with the constitution, if he/she gets a quarter of the votes cast in two third of all the local government areas, as well as the majority of the total votes cast in the election. Consequently, if no candidate satisfies these conditions, the Anambra gubernatorial poll will automatically become an inconclusive election, which would warrant a second election to determine the winner.
2. If for security reasons, election is canceled in a considerable number of polling units which could influence the overall result of the poll
According to the electoral body, if for security reasons election is canceled in a considerable number of polling units and it is discovered that such cancelation could invariably influence the overall outcome of the poll, the Anambra election would be declared inconclusive. As things stand, this remains a possibility owing to the security problems the state has faced of late ahead of the poll.
