Insecurity: FG, Governors Consider Establishing State Police Forces

Worried by the security challenges in the country, there is currently a debate of creating state police.

The Federal Government and state governments are considering the possibility of establishing state police forces.”

This was part of deliberations between President Bola Tinubu and state governors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.

While briefing journalists after the meeting, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, explained that this discussion is still ongoing. There is much work to be done in order to move forward with this idea. Both the Federal Government and state governments recognize the importance of having state police forces. This represents a significant shift in approach. However, as previously mentioned, further progress needs to be made in this direction.”

“A series of meetings will need to take place between the Federal Government and local authorities to determine the specific details and procedures for implementing state police forces. These are some of the key issues that have been addressed during these discussions.”
