The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Cui Jianchun, has urged the Federal Government to invest in education, food, housing, and security if it wants to end poverty.

The advice came at a time that President Bola Tinubu inaugurated members of his cabinet that are expected to assist him actualise his renewed hope campaign manifesto.

Jianchun, who spoke in Abuja on Monday at the unveiling of the Hausa edition of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s book, ‘Up and Out of Poverty’ said there are many lessons from the book for Nigeria as both countries share so many similarities.

According to the envoy, the book was written in 1988 by the current Chinese President, Xi Jinping, reflecting his thoughts on how to eradicate poverty, which he was able to do within 10 years of his reign (2012–2022).

Jianchun said the President had now “eliminated extreme poverty, of which, at that time, 99.8 million people were below the poverty line.”

He emphasized that poverty revolves around two basic needs and three guarantees.

“Food and clothing are our first and second fundamental basic needs, respectively. We have basic healthcare, safe housing, and required education for the three promises, he stated.

“Nigeria needs to fix the educational sector,” he advised. The nation has a high dropout rate, and we all know that without education, a nation cannot advance.

In order to end poverty, Nigeria has to tackle its medical problems.

“China’s actions were intended to stimulate the economy. A key element in eliminating poverty is the economy. Nigeria should rely on its power and natural resources and increase employment opportunities for its people.
