The Federal Government has officially received the Second Niger Bridge from the contractor, Julius Berger, seven months after its inauguration by the previous administration.

Minister of Works, Mr. David Umahi, expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress during a visit, acknowledging the completion of repairs on vandalized portions.

The handover ceremony took place at the toll area of the bridge, where Umahi confirmed that the bridge is open to concession for completion of ancillary roads, toll collection, and investment recoupment by a private company.

Plans are underway to address traffic concerns at both the old and new bridges during the festive period.

Connecting Anambra and Delta states, the 1.6-kilometer-long bridge was initially proposed during the 1978/79 political campaign by then-candidate Shehu Shagari of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN).
