Just-In: Vice Chancellor, Students Shut Out As Unions Protest In Lagos University

The four staff unions at the Lagos State University, Ojo; the Academic Staff Union of Universities, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Non-Academic Staff Union, and the National Association of Academic Technologists have locked out their Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagboun, and students as the university resumes today after the COVID-19 break.

All attempt by the Vice-Chancellor to dialogue with NLC, ASUU, NASU members was not successful, as they insist that no one will be allowed into the university premises until their demands are met by the state government.

They claimed that an increment in their salaries was promised by the Lagos State government more than a year ago and the promise was yet to be fulfilled.

GNB News learnt that the protest by the unions is holding across tertiary institutions in Lagos State.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had asked final-year undergraduate students of Lagos State tertiary institutions to resume today, September 21, 2020.
