A team of the Labour Party, Value-Driven Leadership, has created application software for supporters of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, to increase their electoral participation at their various polling units.

The Director-General of the LP Presidential Campaign Council, Akin Osuntokun, during the inauguration of the Townhall app on Victoria Island, Lagos on Sunday, noted that the platform would minimise electoral manipulation.

Osuntokun said, “The Townhall app is going to transform the credibility of elections conducted in Nigeria because it will create an important platform for both voters and the candidates. Technology has created a trend by which there is a minimisation of electoral manipulation and rigging and this app was designed to personify that trend.

“This app is not limited only to the election, its relevance goes beyond that to involve the gathering of data and statistics. We see that 4,732 members have registered on the app across 37 states including the Federal Capital Territory and 1,822 wards, so it will foster accountability in governance.”

Also speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to Obi, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, explained that the app would ensure that a proper structure is created for the party.

“Peter Obi is guaranteed to win three out of six zones in the country and this is why we want to use the game changer app to empower ourselves with the right awareness on what we need to do before the election, during the election, and post-election-day.

“Obidients are everywhere and we need to organise ourselves to provide the right structure that will help us win the election,” he said,

On her part, the Convener of VDL, Nwakama Okoye, said the platform would bridge the gap between the offline and online supporters of Obi and Baba-Ahmed.
