The Corps Marshal, Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), Gbemisola Akinpelu, on Monday, at the Command Headquarters in the Oshodi, said it will shut down state markets that are breaching the State Government social distancing order.
The Head, Public Affairs Unit of LAGESC, Adebayo Kehinde in a statement warned that “if social distancing is not adhered to, this will pose a great danger to the effort of the State Government at combating the spread of the virus. Overcrowded areas such as our market places will help to increase the spread of this pandemic if social distancing is not adhered to.”
Mr. Kehinde emphasized the agency’s commitment to executing the State Government’s directive by monitoring markets across the state to ensure they are followed.
Speaking on market hygiene Mr Akinpelu advised traders to desist from selling on road setbacks and drainage, encuraging regular hand washing with soap and water, not forgetting the use of hand sanitizers and nose mask. While still at the Mile 12 International market, LAGESC Boss concluded saying the market enlightenment exercise will be taken to all major markets of the state.
