The new Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, Idowu Owohunwa, is set to visit the scenes of the early morning protests that broke out along Lagos-Ikorodu road on Friday.

A source within the police, who spoke exclusively with The PUNCH, said the CP is currently on his way to the Mile 12 area of the state.

When questioned, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, also said that the CP will visit the affected areas today and that Mile 12 would be his first trip.

On Friday morning, The PUNCH had reported that protests had started in numerous locations throughout Lagos.

There have been demonstrations about the shortage of naira and the difficulty for Nigerians in accessing the new notes along the Lagos-Ikorodu Road to Agege, Iyana-Ipaja, Epe, and the Igando districts of the state.

Also, The PUNCH claimed that the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was closed due to a demonstration that erupted in the Mowe neighborhood of Ogun State after a large number of enraged Nigerians flocked to the road to voice their anger over the currency issue.

The old N500 and N1,000 notes were declared invalid by President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.) in a national broadcast, while the old N200 note’s validity was extended for 60 days, or until April 10, 2023.
