The Lagos State House of Assembly on Wednesday confirmed 22 out of the 39 commissioner-nominees sent by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for screening. The Assembly, however, rejected 17 commissioner-nominees.
Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, who presided over the day’s sitting, said the confirmation followed rigorous and detailed screening of the nominees by an ad-hoc committee led by the Chief Whip of the House, Fatai Mojeed.
The names of nominees dropped by the lawmakers include former commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotosho, former commissioner for health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, Solape Hammond, special adviser to the governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) during the first term, and her colleague, former commissioner for Budget and economic planning, Sam Egube, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dada Cecilia, and former Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure, Aramide Adeyoye.
Those confirmed include Hon. Layode Ibrahim, Mobolaji Ogunlende, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, Hon. Bola Olumegbon, Idris Aregbe, Ms. Abisola Ruth Olusanya, Moruf Akinderu Fatai, Kayode Bolaji-Roberts, Engr. Abiola Olowu,Toke Benson-Awoyinka, Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih-Awokoya, Yakub Adedayo Alebiosu, Lawal Pedro SAN, Tunbosun Alake, Gbenga Oyerinde.
Obasa commended the committee for its effectiveness and urged the confirmed nominees to remember that they are in office to serve Lagosians and not individuals.
He also promised that the House would continue to do its best in the interest of the State.
