Singer Azeez Fashola popularly known as Naira Marley; and one of his allies, Samson Eletu, better known as Sam Larry

have initiated a legal action in which they are contesting their ongoing detention related to the death of fellow artist Mohbad.

They are individually requesting a compensation of N20 million from the police and the Lagos magistrate, Adeola Olatunbosun, due to their perceived “prolonged detention” in police custody.

In their lawsuit filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos, Naira Marley and Sam Larry have named the police and the Lagos magistrate as defendants.

The magistrate had previously ordered their custody for 21 days concerning the death of Mohbad.

Their legal counsel, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), has stated that they seek a court declaration that their continued detention in the Homicide Section of the Lagos State Police Command, Panti, Yaba, Lagos State since October 4, 2023, is a breach of their rights.

They maintain that the magistrate’s remand order was limited to 21 days, and that period has now passed. Therefore, they request the court to order their immediate release.
