The Senate, on Thursday, officially inducted Barr Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as the Senator-elect for Kogi Central Senatorial District, following her receipt of the Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), confirming her as the duly elected Senator for Kogi Central.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is now the first female Senator to represent Kogi State.

Earlier in the week on Tuesday, the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal upheld Akpoti-Uduaghan’s status as the rightful winner of the Kogi Central Senatorial Election, which had taken place in February.

The court rejected the appeal made by Abubakar Ohere of the All Progressives Congress (APC), deeming it lacking in merit.

In September, the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal in Lokoja had nullified Ohere’s victory in the Kogi Central Senatorial Election, subsequently declaring Akpoti-Uduaghan as the true winner of the February senatorial poll.

Despite Ohere’s appeal to the higher court, the Court of Appeal reaffirmed Akpoti-Uduaghan’s victory.
