Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has denied claims that he plotted a new attack on Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president-elect.

A media outlet (not The PUNCH) had earlier claimed that high-level CBN agents in Lagos State mobilized a windfall of N500 million.

The money was defined as “Oga’s own contribution to the takeover-Lagos-from-Tinubu’s-influence” in the report’s addition. Oga has since been elected president and will soon relocate to Abuja.

Meanwhile, in a statement on Monday signed by the bank’s Acting Director, Corporate Communications, Isa Abdulmumin, titled, “Re- Emefiele launches fresh plot against President-elect Tinubu,” the CBN also denied the allegation in the report that he made a certain amount of money available to the gubernatorial candidate of Labour Party in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.

“The attention of the CBN has been brought to a narrative published in The Nation newspaper of Monday, March 13, 2023 issue, suggesting that the Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has begun a “fresh plot against the President-elect,” according to the statement,” the CBN said.

The aforementioned report went on to claim that the governor had given a political candidate access to a particular sum of money in advance of the March 18, 2023, governorship election.

“We want to let the public know that this allegation is entirely untrue and malicious because the governor doesn’t know Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour and has never spoken to him in person or via proxy.

The statement further described the claim as bogus and said, “We wish to repeat that the CBN Governor does not participate in politics and urge anyone having contrary information to show the Governor wrong should submit such facts.

“As a result, the Governor and team at the CBN should be given the freedom to concentrate on their specific task with a view to fulfilling the Bank’s statutory responsibilities.”
