Nigeria’s Ministry of Solid Minerals Development has canceled 1,633 mining licenses previously granted to non-compliant mining companies in the country.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, made this announcement during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday.

The revocation is a result of the failure of these mineral title holders to pay the mandatory annual service fees of N1,500 per cadastral unit.

Alake stated that the Mining Cadastre Office recommended the revocation of 1,633 mineral titles, including Exploration Licences, Quarry Licences, Small Scale Mining Licences, and Mining Leases.

The decision was made in accordance with the powers granted by the NMMA 2007, Section 5(a).
