Nigerians Should Brace for Three Days of Thunderstorms and Rains – NiMet

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted widespread thunderstorms and rains across the country from Wednesday, July 3rd to Friday, July 5th.

Here’s a regional breakdown of the forecast:

North: Expect morning thunderstorms on Wednesday in Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Taraba, and Adamawa states. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are likely in Adamawa, Taraba, Jigawa, Kaduna, Yobe, Bauchi, and Gombe states. Similar conditions are expected on Thursday and Friday, with thunderstorms spreading across the entire region in the afternoons and evenings.

North Central: Thunderstorms are forecast for Wednesday morning in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kwara, Kogi, Plateau, Benue, and Niger states. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are also likely. Similar conditions are expected on Thursday and Friday, with thunderstorms concentrated in the afternoons and evenings.

South: The southern region will see morning rains on Wednesday in Lagos, Ondo, Delta, Ogun, Abia, Rivers, Edo, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states. There’s a high chance of continuous rains in Lagos, which could lead to flooding. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are forecast throughout the region. Similar conditions are expected on Thursday and Friday, with morning thunderstorms and afternoon/evening rains across the south.

Safety Precautions:

NiMet advises the public to be cautious of strong winds that might precede the thunderstorms.
In areas with continuous rain, be aware of the potential for flooding and take necessary safety measures.
Airline operators are urged to obtain updated weather reports from NiMet for smooth operations.
