A Paris Saint-Germain supporter was attacked by individuals wearing hoods who stabbed him in the leg before the club’s Champions League match against AC Milan, according to Italian authorities.

The unnamed French man sustained “serious injuries from two stab wounds to the leg” in Milan on Monday night and was taken to a hospital, as reported by the police. Fortunately, the 34-year-old victim’s life was not in danger.

According to witnesses, the altercation occurred between around 50 Milan fans and French supporters in the Navigli area of the northern Italian city.

Video footage shared on social media displayed a group of men in the vicinity of canalside cafes and bars, where they set off flares and then fled from another group of men, some of whom were armed with what appeared to be batons.

This incident comes less than two months after a Newcastle United fan was stabbed in the same part of the city ahead of a Champions League match against Milan.

On Tuesday, Milan, a seven-time European champion, is hosting PSG, who currently lead Group F by two points and are considered favorites following their 3-0 victory over the Italians a fortnight ago at the Parc des Princes.

The match at the San Siro is expected to be intense, with the return of Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who left Milan for PSG as a free agent in the summer of 2021.

This game holds significant importance for both teams’ chances of advancing to the Champions League knockout stages, as only four points separate the four teams in the group, and Milan is at the bottom with two points after failing to score a goal in their first three matches.
