RIVERS LAWMAKERS’ SUPPORT FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19 WITH ONE MONTH SALARY

Members of the Rivers House of Assembly on Wednesday resolved to jointly donate their one-month salary to lend a hand to the State Government’s fight against the unfold of Coronavirus in the state.

In a press conference in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Speaker of the House, Ikuinyi Ibani stated that the members arrived at the decision after an interface with the Ministry of Health at the fight in opposition to coronavirus.

He said, “Based on this feedback gathered from the joint committee on the proactive and preventive measures put in position through the safety council of the state headed by way of the Rivers State Governor, bearing in mind that as accountable representatives of our various constituencies, we resolved that one month salary of all contributors of the Rivers State House of Assembly be deducted by means of the Ministry of Finance and remitted to the committee set up to fight coronavirus in the State.

“This sacrifice through members is not to the exclusion of alternative particular person contributions to their respective constituencies to ameliorate the shocks associated with the pandemic.

“We restate our dedication to the battle in opposition to coronavirus pandemic and our total support of all efforts and actions taken by the Rivers State Government to keep our people safe and healthy”.

Speaker Ikuinyi Ibani was flanked by principal officials of the House and other prominent contributors during the briefing.
