A new crisis has erupted within the Rivers State House of Assembly amid speculation of an impending impeachment process against Governor Sim Fubara.

On Monday, the Assembly removed its leader, Edison Ehie. Governor Fubara entered the Assembly Complex, causing members to flee as tear gas was deployed outside the Complex.

A protest is also underway outside the Complex at the time of this report. This development occurred hours after a fire incident at the Assembly Complex on Sunday night.

It’s uncertain if the fire is connected to the ongoing political dispute, but there have been longstanding rumors of tensions between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister.
