Tems Becomes The First Female Artist From Nigeria To Receive An OSCAR Nomination.

As a songwriter for “Lift Me Up,” one of the soundtracks for Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, also known as Tems, has been nominated for a 2023 Oscar.

Tems made history by becoming the first female Nigerian artist to receive an Oscar nomination.

 

Oscar voting will take place from March 2–7, 2023. Jimmy Kimmel, a comedian and talk show presenter, will serve as the event’s host. The 2023 Oscar ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 12 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

BIOGRAPHY OF TEMS

 

Temilade Openiyi, often known as Tems, is a Nigerian singer who was born on June 11th, 1995.

 

She gained notoriety when she appeared on Wizkid’s 2020 single “Essence,” which received a Grammy Award nomination and peaked at number ten on the Billboard Hot 100 after being released in a remix with a cameo from Justin Bieber.

 

She appeared on Drake’s song “Fountains” in the same year.

 

For Broken Ears, her debut extended play, was published on September 25, 2020. After signing with RCA Records, Tems released her second extended play, If Orange Was a Place (2021). [3] Future copied Tems’ voice from her song “Higher” for his single “Wait for U” in 2022, earning her credit.
