The Federal Government reopened the Third Mainland Bridge after successfully completing rehabilitation works on the structure.

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, expressed her satisfaction with the repairs and assured motorists of a smooth journey until the commencement of a comprehensive rehabilitation project in January 2024.

The bridge was reopened to traffic at around 7 pm after a 24-hour closure that started at midnight on Saturday and ended on Sunday, aimed at addressing critical issues and minimizing inconvenience for drivers.

During an inspection, the controller pointed out that the repair work done on a 9.7-kilometer section of the Lagos Island in-bound lane, between Iyana-Oworo and Adeniji-Adele, would have a longer-lasting impact, extending beyond January.

She said: “This repair is going to last beyond January; we don’t intend to do any work that will last only one or two months. Even by January, the road will still be good.”

She clarified that the comprehensive rehabilitation would involve the complete removal and replacement of the asphalt surface, with some components for emergency repairs currently being imported.
