The President-Elect, Bola Tinubu, received the certificate of return on Wednesday from the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to Channels Television, the certificate was given to Tinubu at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, the nation’s capital, by INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

At the occasion, Kashim Shettima, his running mate, also received his certificate of return.

The announcement of Tinubu’s victory over his closest rival, PDP candidate Atiku Abubakar, who received 6,984,520 votes, on Saturday, February 25, was made a few hours prior to the presentation.

In a hotly contested race, Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer, made his first attempt at the presidency.

The 70-year-old former Lagos governor won the most votes by winning 12 of Nigeria’s 36 states and securing significant numbers in a number of additional states.

Abubakar, 76, who has now run for president six times, received 6,984,520 votes, while Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), who in less than a year galvanized young voters in a way that some have called unprecedented, came in second with 6,101,533, received 6,101,533 votes.
