World record holder Tobi Amusan suffered a setback on Friday as she finished third in heat one of the women’s 100m hurdles semifinals at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The result dashed her hopes for an automatic qualification spot in the final.
Nigeria’s flagbearer for the Games, Amusan clocked a time of 12.55 seconds, leaving her to rely on a potential wildcard spot as one of the fastest losers to advance.
The reigning champion had secured her place in the semifinals on Wednesday with a strong performance, finishing first in her heat with a time of 12.49 seconds.
