UPDATE: Six Abducted Gusau Varsity Students Rescued by Troops

Out of the 24 students from the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State who were abducted in the early hours of Friday, six have been successfully rescued.

This information was verified by a high-ranking military source who is closely associated with Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, the Commander of the 1 Brigade Nigerian Army in Gusau.

He said the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed is currently leading the operation with other security agencies in the forest along Tsafe Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

The same source also confirmed that numerous bandits have been neutralized during the ongoing operation, and some weapons have been recovered as well.

Earlier, an anonymous student from the school revealed that during the attack, more than 24 of their fellow students, primarily female, were abducted.

Additionally, a Sabon-Gida resident named Nazeer Sabon-Gida affirmed that the assailants stormed the community at approximately 3 am, initiating indiscriminate gunfire

According to him, three students’ hostels were attacked and all the students in the hostels were taken away by the bandits.

In a related development, the Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the abduction of the students.

In a telephone conversation on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, ASP Yazid Abubakar, stated that they have not yet confirmed the precise number of students who were abducted but verified that a rescue operation is presently underway.
