Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic returned to the US Open on Monday night and reclaimed the men’s world number one spot over Carlos Alcaraz after his first-round win, on Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York, USA.
Three-time US Open champion, Djokovic, was prevented from playing in 2022’s Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows due to being unvaccinated against COVID-19.
Djokovic began his quest to match Margaret Court’s all-time record haul of 24 Grand Slams with a 6-0 6-2 6-3 victory against Frenchman Alexandre Muller.
The victory enabled Djokovic nudge US Open and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz out at the top of the men’s rankings.
Alcaraz, who beat Djokovic in an epic Wimbledon final in July, opens his US Open account on Tuesday against Dominik Koepfer of Germany.
