The 2023 Direct Entry registration process has been restarted nationwide by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Following the revelation of the myriad of methods and machinations to evade and undermine the standard of A’ Level credentials required from DE candidates, the board had suspended the direct entry registration, which began on Monday, February 20, 2023.

The DE registration would end on April 28, 2023, according to Is-haq Oloyede, Registrar of JAMB, who announced this on Monday in Abuja.

Oloyede bemoaned the high rate of A Level certificates being falsified and used for registration while announcing new rules the board had put in place to prevent such behavior

Remember that some of these dishonest and malicious actions were exposed by recent combined operations of the Federal Ministry of Education and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission on DE qualifications? he said.

The high percentage of A’ Level qualification fraud for DE has also been constantly brought to light by Bayero University, Kano.

For instance, it was found that in prior years, some candidates registered for Direct Entry using questionable and falsified A’ level certificates/qualifications and were ultimately allowed. For instance, only six of the 148 candidates that BUK vetted were discovered to be authentic. Inferentially, 142 of the outcomes were faked.

“The Board, concerned stakeholders, and institutions are working diligently to detect such, and the ones already found are being dealt with in accordance with the laws,” he continued.

For the 2023 Direct Entry registration, Oloyede continued, the Board would only accept 13 credentials/certificates, including first degrees, university diplomas, higher national diplomas, ordinary national diplomas/national diplomas, and Nigeria Certificates in Education.

The National Registered Nurse/National Registered Midwifery, International Baccalaureate, Higher Islamic Studies Certificate by NBAIS, Interim Joint Matriculation Board A’ Level, Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board A’ Level, NABTEB Advanced National Business Certificate, NABTEB Advanced National Technical Certificate, NABTEB GCE-A’ Level (2015 – 2021), and NABTEB GCE-A’ Level are additional credentials.

The 127 applicants who had previously registered for the 2023 DE before the process was postponed, he added, would be asked to visit the registration centers again and update their application.

The head of JAMB also disclosed that the data bank set up to resolve issues with the A’ Level qualifications has been successful.

‘Nigeria Post-secondary Education Data System’ was the system’s new name.
