Following the introduction in India and Brazil, it is said that WhatsApp would soon introduce in-chat payments in Singapore.

According to reports, the IT firm collaborated with Stripe, a provider of online payments, to introduce the service in the area.

According to Tech Crunch, WhatsApp developed this payment feature utilizing the Stripe Connect and Stripe Checkout services, enabling in-app purchases both online and off.

Businesses will now accept payments from customers via credit cards, debit cards, or Singapore’s PayNow fund transfer service.

The tool is currently only accessible to a small number of companies, according to Meta, but it will soon be made available to more retailers.

Businesses can set up this service through WhatsApp Business, which will also provide instructions on how to open a Stripe account.

The majority of the Singaporeans I know use WhatsApp to talk with one another, according to Sarita Singh, regional head and managing director for Southeast Asia at Stripe. They can now use the app to pay nearby establishments as well. Businesses will be able to access a larger consumer base and diversify their revenue streams thanks to WhatsApp’s quick and simple payment options.

The WhatsApp payment was first launched in India based on the country’s Unified Payment Interface network in 2020 in test mode. Last month, it also launched merchant payments in Brazil, after allowing peer-to-peer payments for about three years.
