Folarin “Falz” Falana, a well-known musician from Nigeria, has attacked Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State and the victor of the state’s recent governorship election, after the Independent National Election Commission confirmed his reappointment for a second term.

The Returning Officer for the gubernatorial and state assembly elections, Prof. Adenike Oladeji, announced Sanwo-Olu as the winner of the governorship election by INEC in the early hours of Monday after she had won 19 out of the state’s 20 local government areas, according to the punch

On Monday morning at 9 a.m., the governor thanked the people of Lagos for giving him the opportunity to serve a second term as governor.

“Thank you Lagosians,” Sanwo-Olu wrote. The enormous support and confidence of the fine people of Lagos State have left me feeling incredibly grateful and humbled. I consider it an honor to be re-elected as your governor and promise to keep working nonstop to make Lagos better for everyone. I appreciate your confidence in me.

“These elections have put us as a people to the test. This triumph belongs to all Lagosians, not just to me.

“I have put forth a lot of effort to fulfill this obligation of leading the most significant subnational economy in Africa. Without a doubt, we were unable to accomplish this on our own. Thank you to everyone in Lagos and to the Almighty God. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to our wonderful party, the APC, and our incoming president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

We regrettably observed a lot of inflammatory speech during the campaign. Elections ought to be based on qualifications, skills, and experience, not on factors like race or religion. I applaud everyone who stood against unpleasant and divisive ethnic profiling.

Sanwo-Olu addressed the election-related violence that took place in several areas of the state, saying, “Recent conflicts in some LGAs that resulted in injuries are abhorrent and not indicative of who we are. Authorities in charge of law enforcement and security have been ordered to make sure that those found guilty face the full force of the law.

However, and this must be emphasized, what unifies Lagosians is far more significant and vital than any disparities that may occur.

“As your Governor, I will do every effort to make sure that real healing occurs. No matter where they may reside in the State, we will continue to administer a government that serves all Lagos residents.

Falz responded to the governor’s thank-you note to Lagosians after he won the election by saying, “You were not re-elected. You made the decision. Everyone watched it happen. You are merely lying to yourself.

The rapper responded, “Yeah, it is (pain) actually,” to a tweeter who inquired whether he was “pained” by Sanwo-victory. Olu’s the hurt of realizing that family members are being pitted against one another in order to “win” an election

“And the sorrow of watching our democratic process be mocked right in front of us.”

Sanwo-Olu received 762,134 votes in total, defeating Abdulazeez Adediran of the Peoples Democratic Party and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party, who received 312,329 and 62,449 votes, respectively.
