5 Things That Fail A Home Inspection

The real estate market is booming right now. Buyers are flooding real estate websites looking to purchase their forever home. This is happening because they can get a bargain with interest rates being low.

Let’s shed some light on the most common things that fail a home inspection so you have an idea of what could put things on hold.

The home inspection is a crucial step in the homebuying process because it could save you a lot of money in the long run.

You should check to make sure the home is structurally sound, that the electrical and plumbing work is safe, and more.

Take note, a home inspection isn’t necessarily a pass or fail test. It’s more about getting a description of the home’s physical condition and giving an assessment of what may need to be repaired or replaced in the home.

Let’s take a look at 5 most-common home inspection problems

  1. Yard drainage

If you notice that your grass or lawn is a little soggy long after a storm or even without a storm, you may have a big issue on your hands. Yard drainage is an issue that sneaks up on many home sellers.

If you notice small lakes forming in your yard or mushy wetlands appearing, you should try and get to the root of the issue. Most likely it could be an issue you will have to deal with and get fixed, but not all the time. Sometimes this happens and it could be on the city or township that you live in. It’s best to figure out who’s issue it is.

  2. Problems with the foundation

You should look if there are  issues with the foundation. Look for cracks, too.

Cracks in the foundation of a home are far too common causes of a failed inspection. Chances are a crack in the foundation can be repaired, but it’s best to get it fixed as soon as possible before it spreads and gets worse.

You should check for cracks in the foundation both inside and outside of the home.

  3. Leaks

To find leaks, search throughout the home to find signs of mold or mildew, water damage, and cracks around pipes. Also look at the ceiling for water spots or cracks.

  4. Issues with plumbing and pipes

Plumbing problems and leaky pipes are common things that fail a home inspection. Plumbing is a big cause for concern because if there’s a hidden leak that’s left unrepaired, it could cause mold to spread throughout the home.

  5. Mold

Mold is a very common issue for homes to fail inspection. The worst part is you probably aren’t even aware of it.

Sure mold can grow on outer surfaces, but it can also grow under floors and behind walls. What a lot of people may not realize is that exposure to any kind of mold could lead to a variety of health concerns, such as respiratory problems, headaches, skin irritation, and more.

It’s worth noting that mold isn’t always in plain view and doesn’t always have that distinct, musty smell, which makes it harder to locate. This means that wherever there are water-soaked materials and signs of a leak, mold has the potential to grow.
