Babayo Akuyam, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representative for the Hardawa constituency, has secured the position of Speaker in the Bauchi State House of Assembly.
Additionally, Ahmed Abdullahi, the legislator for Dass Constituency in Dass Local Government Area, has been elected as Deputy Speaker.
This election took place just five days after the Appeal Court in Abuja removed the former Speaker, Abubakar Suleiman, who represented Ningi Central Constituency.
Following the appellate court’s ruling last Friday, which ordered a rerun in 10 polling units in Ningi Central constituency, Abubakar Suleiman stepped down as the Speaker of the 10th Assembly, creating a vacuum in the speakership position.
The new Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Abdullahi, replaces Jamilu Dahiru of Bauchi Central constituency, who was also removed by the Court of Appeal, prompting a rerun election in 9 polling units in the constituency.
Both new appointees were elected through a consensus vote and have been sworn in.
