The Abuja Court of Appeal has overturned the removal of Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State in connection with the March 18 governorship election.

In a unanimous decision on Thursday, a three-member panel of justices concluded that the Nasarawa State Election Petition Tribunal made a legal error in determining that Sule did not secure the majority of votes in the election.

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Sule the winner with 347,209 votes, while David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured 283,016 votes, coming in second.

Unsatisfied with the election outcome, the PDP candidate took the matter to court, alleging irregularities.

As a result, the appellate court set aside the tribunal’s judgment, confirming the re-election of Sule as the Governor of Nasarawa State.
