The Supreme Court has dismissed Atiku Abubakar’s plea to file fresh evidence against President Bola Tinubu.

Justice Inyang Okoro announced this decision on Thursday during the hearing of appeals filed against Bola Tinubu’s victory in the Presidential Election Tribunal Court (PEPC).

Atiku had requested the court’s permission to introduce additional evidence to support his claim that Tinubu submitted a fake certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Atiku’s counsel Chris Uche (SAN), said the 32-page document released to his client should be admitted in the interest of justice.

However, Justice Okoro stated that the deadline for admitting such evidence had passed. He referenced Section 285(5) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, which outlines the timeline for the PEPC to handle petitions related to presidential elections.

He said since the 180-day period expired on September 17, the Supreme Court lacked the jurisdiction to accept the document.
