Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has refuted claims of being in conflict with anyone. He clarified his position, stating he’s defending the state against those attempting to undermine its security and well-being.

Fubara made these remarks during a courtesy visit from the Senate Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

Failed Bombing Attempt Blamed on “Detractors”

The governor addressed the recent failed bomb attempt at the Hotel Presidential. He alleged it was a deliberate act by “detractors” aiming to destabilize the state and justify a state of emergency.

Protests Attributed to Tenure Extension Demands

Fubara further claimed that protests demanding an extension for local government chairmen with expired terms were instigated by those behind the bombing attempt. He suggested these individuals targeted the hotel because it housed visiting National Assembly members.

Governor Questions Legal System, Calls for Accountability

Fubara expressed concern over the perceived lack of action against those who break the law, particularly regarding the tenure extension issue. He questioned why the law seems “silent” in such cases and if some individuals are considered “bigger than the law.”

Fubara Advocates for State Involvement in Privatization

Governor Fubara urged the committee to prioritize Rivers’ interests during the privatization and commercialization of public companies. He expressed the state’s desire to acquire stakes in these companies to ensure their viability and proper oversight.

Committee Chairman Commends Fubara, Calls for Peace

Senate Committee Chairman Orji Uzo Kalu commended Fubara’s commitment to peace and good governance. He also urged former governor Nyesom Wike to prioritize the state’s well-being and encourage peace by calling his supporters to order.

Focus on Peace and Respect for Law

Kalu emphasized the importance of peace and adhering to the rule of law. He urged all parties to wait for judicial interpretations and act accordingly.

Collaboration for Mutual Benefit

Chairman Kalu pledged the committee’s willingness to collaborate with the state government for the betterment of all Nigerians.
