Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, addressing his supporters at the Assembly Complex in Port Harcourt on Monday, refuted allegations that he had committed any offense deserving impeachment by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

“Let them come out and tell Rivers people the offence I have committed to warrant any impeachment,” the governor said while addressing his supporters at the Assembly Complex.

Fubara assured the state’s residents that they would continue to receive the benefits of democracy and stated that he would address the matter at a later time.

It was reported that a fresh crisis engulfed the Rivers Assembly amidst rumours of an impending impeachment procedure against Fubara as the House on Monday removed its leader, Edison Ehie.

The Assembly members, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, issued an impeachment notice to Fubara, causing them to evacuate when tear gas was deployed outside the Complex.

This came after a fire incident at the Assembly Complex on Sunday night, and speculations about tensions between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister.
